The Shining Cuckoo is the harbinger of spring, a new season, new starts and new growth. The perfect image for so many of our special occasions.
Each card is printed on a satin finish 300gsm white card and comes with an envelope. They are blank inside so can be used for any special occasion.
The Pipiwharauroa (Shining Cuckoo) arrive from Melanesia, each year returning to the same area in NZ to breed. Like all cuckoo, they do not raise their own young. these Shining Cuckoo offspring are raised by the Grey Warbler.
Each year I wait for the call of the cuckoo. Ka tangi te wharauroa, ko nga karere a Mahuru. “If the shining cuckoo cries it is the messenger of Spring”.
My artwork is created in response to the NZ wildlife, birds, and critters surrounding my life and studio on Hinewai Reserve. I am inspired by nature’s resilience and the critters who live and breed here. I create to protect our critters one artwork at a time.
